Light as air - the most light weight headphones on the market
Headphones come not only in a range of shapes and sizes, but also in varying weights. Technology has come such a long way that devices with high functionality do not always have to be bulky. This is true for headphones as some of the best headsets tend to be lightweight too. In fact, lightweight is an important feature for headphones because they should be portable.
Since this is an essential feature of headphones, we have reviewed three headphones that we think are lightweight without compromising on the functionality.
Panasonic rp-ht21 lightweight headphones with xbs port
Panasonic’s RP-HT21 is one of the few headphones available today that are priced under $10, and at the same time come with full functionality. It is also lightweight and easy to carry, making it a preferred choice for those who are looking for a little bit of everything without paying through the roof.
The design of these headphones is ordinary with no outstanding feature. It has two ear cups and a head frame, with the ear cups attached to a cord each. The end of the cord plugs into a device such as a MP3 player or laptop. The ear cups do not come with any plush fabric or padding to give ears extra support, and the same can be said of the headband too. This is why it gets a bit uncomfortable to wear after sometime as both the scalp and the ears get. Also, these headphones do not fold down and do not have any extra features such as microphone that make it handy for taking calls. In short, it is a basic headphones model that comes with a simple design.
As for their sound performance, it is fairly decent and is better than most other headphones in this price range. They have a reasonable amount of clarity, good bass and the volume is quite high. However, the notes are not all that refined, but it sounds similar to some headphones that are more expensive than this.
Overall, the Panasonic rp-ht21 lightweight headphones with xbs port headphones are lightweight and sound good for casual use. Though its design is fairly simple, it is comfortable to wear for short periods of time and the sound tat comes out of it is definitely better than what someone would expect for this low price.
JVC HAS160B FLATS Lightweight Headband Headphones
JVC Flats is another pair of headphones that are lightweight, have good sound and are also priced cheap. Selling for under $12, these headphones can surprise users.
These headphones have a basic design that looks classy for its price. The ear cups come with padding to give some support for the ears and to isolate outside noise. On the back side, there is a shiny finish that has the words JVC engraved in white. These ear pads come in many colours to suit the colour preferences of different users.
The head band is also black and does not hurt the scalp. In fact, it has a comfortable fit for most users, except for thise who have really big ears. For such people, these headphones may seem small because they sit on the ears, but does not cover it completely. For the others, the fit is comfortable and these headphones can be worn for extended periods of time.
As expected, these headphones do not come with any additional accessories such as a carrying case or microphones. Hence, it cannot be used for taking calls, so users have to use it only as headphones.
Despite the lack of accessories, these headphones sound great, especially considering their low price. It has a balanced sound that makes every note clean. The bass and treble are good, but not overpowering and intense. Surprisingly, the bass is detailed and is sure to appease bass lovers.
In short, JVC HAS160B FLATS Lightweight Headband Headphones are a great buy for those who are on a tight budget. Though it does not fare well when compared to many $100 or more headphones, it is definitely better than many $50 headphones. The design is plain and comfortable and te sound quality is great. They are a sure bargain for buyers.
Sennheiser HD201 Lightweight Over-Ear Binaural Headphones
Sennheiser is a name associated with excellent headphones that come with unique design and top class sound quality. Though many of its models are on the expensive side, it decided to experiment with a low cost model. The result was the creation of Sennheiser HD201 Lightweight Over-Ear Binaural Headphones that give budget users a chance to listen to great audio.
These headphones are full-size which means they have a circumaural or over the ear design. Each ear cups pivots back and forth to ensure that at least one side stays on even if the other is off, and they also swivel to a limited extent. The ear cups come with padded material that is comfortable on the ears, and it is also replaceable.
The overall design is black and the back side of the ear cups alone have a oval-shaped silver colour. The head band is also well-padded and provides for a comfortable fit on the scalp.
The best part is that even with so much padding, these headphones are relatively lightweight. It comes with a plastic cord that starts at each ear cup and ends in a plug. Though these cords are secure and strong, they are not a good choice for travel as the cords get tangled easily. It is ironical that such lightweight headphones come with poor cord quality, thereby making it difficult for travel.
As for performance, the notes are clean, especially the bass. However, there is no power or punch in it. The midrange notes sound natural and the highs are fairly crisp.
The transition between high and midrange notes is not smooth, so some guitar tones can sound too intense and jagged. Vocals can be a little uneven too depending on the song. Overall, it is a good choice but the more expensive models look and sound better.
