IMPROVED, WITH A WELL-BALANCED SOUND - BEATS SOLO 2 IS OVERALL A GOOD PURCHASE
Beats has hit the market with their new Solo 2. This new installment is quirkier, compact and portable, and continues to push boundaries in the bass range; but that all there is. The new Solo 2 is the successor of the HD Solo, which although hugely popular, received good reviews with regards to its sound performance; while continuing to be priced a bit higher than other similar models, given that the Beats brand is still one of the top in the global headphones market .
First off, the new solo 2 comes in a wide range colors that are sure to attract people across age groups. The Solo 2 weighs around a little over 200 grams, and its built is sturdier with no visible screws which guarantee that are made to perform and last long. The over head band is snugger, with increased rubber padding, light weight and firm mid-section, which are very useful when jogging or running and prevents the device from slipping off. The ear pads have been redesigned making them more comfortable considering they are on-ear headphones and can seem slightly heavy over time.
The tighter ear pads have also cut down on sound leakage massively; so you will be enjoying your music alone without anybody else complaining about it. However, it can be a comparatively harder for wearers of spectacles to keep the headphones on for long since it pushes the ears backwards against the stick of your glasses. The Beats Solo 2 has a cable in the same color as the handset, which is detachable and can be fixed to the 3.5mm socket in the left ear-cup. Also, the headphones can be folded up to fit in a small case ensuring efficient portability.
The noise isolation that the new Beats Solo 2 offers also points to their stand with regard to the quality of sound. It is not built for studio listening, unlike other Beats models like Beats Mixr, Pro and Studio Wireless. However, there have been significant improvements made in this section. While the bass range is a lot more balanced, the other ranges have also received focus to prevent the sound to become murky.
The bass has been pushed down further so as to prevent that mid-range thickness that was found in the last Beats Solo. The lower end which is Beats’ calling card stands out even in the Solo 2 and has the effect of a home cinema subwoofer. The mid-range, however, is very weak compared to the bass and treble and remains wanting in perfection.
The sonic improvements in the Solo 2 are visible when artificial (e.g. electro and techno ) sound is used. There is a beautiful resonating effect to the thumping of the bass which is not harsh on your ear; ad their overall sound is clearly better than their predecessor.
