Philips claims that the SHQ 5200/10 is the best option for gym goers because of its sweat resistant features, lightweight and comfort. Albeit the SHQ 5200/10 are immensely comfortable in terms of wear. It may look a bit off considering the price tag that comes with it.
However, they more than make up for the not so amazing design by the level of comfort they provide.
It is made from predominantly from plastic. The headband is made from a rubber like flexible silicone material, which the company claims, prevents the headphones from slipping off. They are entirely sweat resistant and water proof making them ideal for all season wears.
The ear cups make look they are made from cheap quality plastic, but the cushions are soft and sit snugly on the ear.
They are also sweat resistant, made from moisture wicking fabric, to the extent that you can remove them and wash them after a session of intense workout. However, taking them off and replacing them may seem like a tiny ordeal.
There are two cables that come along with the headphones; and they are Kevlar reinforced.
The shorter cable is for use during connecting to the audio source in the arm band; while the longer cable is to connect to the iPod in your pocket. It is surprisingly lightweight, weighing in at only 100g.
The Philips SHQ 5200/10 headphones are powered by 40 mm neodymium drivers installed into each ear cup. These drivers are technically bass heavy, and so is the SHQ 5200/10. The mid ranges are fairly decent.
However, the real drop in sonic quality drops when you crank up the music. With higher volumes, the music is distorted and not for an audiophile. Another major issue with the SHQ 5200/10 is the fact that is causes a lot of sound leakage.
The SHQ 5200/10 is a pair of on-ear headphones, with an open back so the sound leakage is obvious. However their overall sound is quite good, and certainly one of the best in their category, and in combination with their comfort. light weight and sensible price, make them a very good purchase.
